DIVERSITY EXPERIENCES
Diversity Practicum (Fall 2016)
I completed my Diversity Practicum at Dorothy Moses, a Title I School. I observed a Fourth Grade classroom and two Second Grade classrooms. It was a great experience to observe and understand how to accommodate a group of diverse learners. I experienced many different situations that were very eye opening when teaching such a wide variety of students.
Family Mentorship Program (Spring 2016)
I had the experience to work with a Physical Therapy student to interact with a young boy with Autism. I got to experience what it is like to eat out in public, his therapy sessions, and also to learn about what life is like for this family. It was an experience where I put myself in their shoes and understand their daily struggles. It was a wonderful learning experience that I will never forget.
Missouri Valley Montessori (2014-2016)
I worked at Missouri Valley Montessori Preschool as an afterschool staff member, substitute teacher/assistant, summer staff, and part-time daily staff. My two years of working there, I experienced a wide variety of children and families. I have had to learn how to accommodate to different cultures and lifestyles and how they affect the students learning. I learned many new things and had numerous experiences of learning about the diverse learners.
Sterling Elementary School (Spring 2015)
I had the opportunity to do a practicum at Sterling Elementary School in grades Kindergarten through Eighth. Sterling had small combined classrooms, having two grades in one room. It was an amazing experience to learn and plan lessons for not only one grade but two grades at the same time. I had to think about the needs of two different grade levels while still planning an effective lesson. I never thought I would plan and teach to two grades at once, but it was a very neat to experience.
